For me, this may just be the greatest golfing treat I’ll ever experience. This is easily the most excited and nervous I’ve ever been for a round of golf. Growing up a mere 7.2 miles from this famed course, I never in my wildest dreams believed I would get an opportunity to play the exclusive gem called, Valhalla. Some how, some way, my wife was able to pull off the unimaginable and get me and my best bud on this course for my 30th birthday present.
This course has yielded some of the greatest tournaments and champions the game has known: Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Tom Watson, Hale Irwin, a US Ryder cup team captained by Paul Azinger. Heck, the routing and layout was sculpted by the great Jack Nicklaus. Everything about this course’s history is majestic, and playing here is a bucket list dream come true for a Louisville golfer.
In Norse mythology, Valhalla is “the hall of the fallen” designated for those distinguished warriors worthy of eternity with Norse god, Odin. The hallowed land containing Thor’s hall is guarded by gates and eagles, and that was evident right as we pull up.
